Use Lighting To Take Pictures

Lighting is a critical aspect of good photography. Taking pictures is a balance of use light for creative and aesthetic purposes. However, this skill comes with persistent practice and a working knowledge of basic lighting techniques. Learn simple ways to make your photos "picture perfect" by reading the following steps.

Instructions

1. Explore your camera's light meter, which allows you to know what exposures work in various lighting conditions.

2. Learn about aperture, which controls the amount of light entering your lens. The larger the aperture, the more shallow your depth of field (for macro images such as insects or flowers) will be.

3. Know the difference between basic shutter speed settings, which control the amount of light reaching your camera's sensor (or film.) Generally, the higher the speed, the more light you will need.

4. Use your camera's manual mode for multiple pictures at a fixed distance. Manual flash offers consistent exposures by emitting a fixed output regardless of changes in light levels or subject distances.

5. Try different exposures to achieve the results you want. You can control photography exposures by either keeping your camera's flash output constant and varying the f-stop or by choosing an aperture and adjusting the flash power to suit it.

6. Purchase light sources such as reflectors, flash guns and/or other lighting equipment. Such accessories will enable you to achieve professional photography results while expanding your creativity.

7. Take photographs in various lighting conditions such as evenings or sunny/cloudy days. Each situation demands unique lighting adjustments that will force you to learn on the spot and improve your skills.
