Create A Homemade Art Projector Box

Kids can learn about projection by making their own art projectors.

When children are learning draw, it can be helpful to start out by tracing a picture that is already drawn or printed onto paper. Instead of holding the paper against a window to trace it, you can make your child a homemade art projector box that will light up to allow your child to trace the picture right at a table. You can find all of the items needed to make an art projector at a hardware store.

Instructions

1. Remove the backing from a wooden picture frame, leaving only the wooden frame and glass front.

2. Place a protractor against two wooden blocks, and draw a line to mark a 45-degree angle on one end of each block.

3. Saw off the tip at the end of each block to make the ends cut at a 45-degree angle.

4. Nail the angled blocks onto two of the corners of the glass-front frame. Place the blocks on the same side of the frame.

5. Place the frame onto a table top, allowing one side of the frame to be lifted up onto the wooden blocks.

6. Place an LED light in the space underneath the frame. When you place a drawing or paper onto the glass of the frame, the light below will project through the paper, allowing your child to trace the picture.
