Sell A Wrecked Vehicle

Sell a Wrecked Car

Most everything is salable, this includes a wrecked car. Of course, the condition the wrecked car is in plays a major role in how you go about selling it. Your main choices are: repairing it and then selling it, selling it to a person for parts, selling it to someone who has the ability to repair it or selling it to a junk yard for a small price. But as with anything you sell there are important steps you must take during and before the process.

Instructions

Sell a Wrecked Car

1. Inspect the damage that occured to the car during the wreck. You may not be able to do this yourself. You may have to take it to your automobile repair man and have him do an evaluation of the car.

2. Repair all major damage that effects the driving performance of the automobile or safety features. If you can't do this yourself, have your mechanic do the repairs for you. Keep track of all the costs.

3. Obtain a salvage title, if necessary. A wrecked car, which has been considered a total loss by an insurance company, must now have a written salvage title instead of a clear title. Each state has its own method of obtaining these. Most states require that the wrecked automobile be examined by a Highway Patrol Officer for safety issues. If the automobile passes, the officer will give you a statement that will allow your local title department permission to grant you a salvage title. Most local Department of Motor Vehicles can inform you of your state's rules and regulations on obtaining a salvage title and the process.

4. Advertise that you are selling the car. Be sure to tell all potential buyers that the automobile has been wrecked and if there is a salvage or clear title for the automobile.

5. Sign over ownership to the person who agrees to your asking price. This process needs to be done in front of a notary and both buyer and seller must show proof of identity.
