An old refrigerator can put a damper on the appearance of your kitchen. Luckily, you can revive a faded or scratched refrigerator with a special paint designed specifically for appliances. Epoxy paint will cover the imperfections on your fridge and make it look as good as new. Proper preparation is imperative when painting a refrigerator; a dirty appliance will not allow for proper paint adhesion.
Instructions
1. Unplug the refrigerator and move it to an open, well-ventilated area.
2. Tape off the handle with painter's tape to protect it during the painting process.
3. Clean the refrigerator with a grease-fighting dish detergent and water, applied with a sponge. Rinse the soap residue from the refrigerator and dry it with a towel or allow it to air-dry.
4. Sand the surfaces with sandpaper to help the paint adhere to the refrigerator. Clean up any rusted areas by rubbing the rust with a wire brush or steel wool. Prime rusted areas with rusted primer before the paint application.
5. Apply the appliance epoxy paint via spray or brush. When spraying, hold the can approximately 12 inches away from the refrigerator and paint in straight lines that overlap slightly. Keep the spray can in motion at all times to avoid drips and use at least two coats. If you brush on the paint, use a paint roller to apply the paint in three thin coats. Always allow one coat to dry completely before applying the next.
