Mute On The Phone Conference

A few simple dial-pad entries is all that is needed

Using conference calls for a business to communicate with its employees or customers is becoming more popular each year. Knowing mute your end of the line is important not only to prevent any background noise from disturbing the others on the call, but also to allow you to continue other tasks while participating in the call. The process for muting your line is simple and requires only a few steps. The steps are similar for each conference hosting company, but may involve a different series of keypad entries.

Instructions

1. Listen closely to the instructions. Most every conference call hosting company provides a recording of general instructions once a participant joins a conference call. Listening closely to these instructions should provide you with the necessary steps to mute your line.

2. Press "star then six" on your keypad. Each hosting company may differ in the exact keypad entries, this combination is the one most commonly used. Pressing these two keys not only mutes your line, but when pressed again un-mutes your line. Other common keypad combinations are "star, five," and "star, seven." Please see the reference section below for a few common carriers and their directions for muting.

3. Press the mute button on your phone. If you miss the opening instructions, use the mute button on your phone. Most every cell phone has a mute button as do most office style telephones. Check your phone's owner's manual for the location and use of its mute button.
