Upstate New York features several tourist attractions.


There are nine regions in upstate New York, which is often defined as any part of the state north of New York City. Upstate New York offers tourists a wide variety of attractions from which to choose


Regions


The nine regions of upstate New York include the Adirondack, Thousand Island/Seaway, Capital/Saratoga, Hudson Valley, Catskill, Central Leatherstocking, Greater Niagara, Finger Lakes and Chautauqua/Allegheny. Upstate New York tourists will find attractions of historical, cultural and natural value throughout the regions, which are conveniently located within driving distance of major cities including New York City, Philadelphia and Montreal, Canada.


Adirondacks


The Adirondack mountains are one of upstate New York's most popular tourist attractions. Historical sites including Fort Ticonderoga and the home of abolitionist John Brown are of particular interest. The Great Escape theme park is also located in this region as is Lake Placid, the site of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics.


Hall of Fame


Upstate New York tourists who are baseball enthusiasts will find the Central Leatherstocking region's National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown of particular interest. The hall pays tribute to many of the game's best players.
