What Is Cheaper A Notebook Or Perhaps A Laptop

A notebook is cheaper than a laptop.

Many people use the terms laptop and notebook interchangeably, but they are two distinct pieces of technology. In general terms, a laptop is designed to be a mobile full desktop computer replacement and a notebook sacrifices features for increased mobility. Like all computers, prices for laptops and notebooks vary hugely depending on a variety of factors such as manufacturer and features.

Notebooks

A notebook is best described as a lightweight miniature laptop that sacrifices power, features and performance for lightweight portability and increased battery life. Notebooks are ultra-light -- usually around 2 to 3 pounds in weight. Their battery life is usually double that of a laptop -- around 5 to 6 hours. They have no internal floppy drive, a minimal graphics subsystem and no internal DVD or CD drive. They have a 12- to 14-inch screen, a low, thin profile, and an integrated modem and network connection. They also have a much smaller keyboard.

Laptops

Laptops are designed to perform all the high-powered functions of a modern desktop computer and have many of the same features while having some degree of portability. A laptop has a 14- to 17-inch screen, a battery life of up to 3 hours plus and an internal DVD ROM and DVD drive. Laptops are heavier than notebooks, weighing around 5 to 6 pounds, and have integrated modem, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi capabilities. They are upgradeable, and generally feature high-quality audio and speaker systems.

Factors in Choosing

Like all computers the costs vary greatly depending on the requirements you have in mind and the features you need when choosing between a laptop and notebook. You can always find low-end cheaper models for both laptops and notebooks that sacrifice quality and longevity for a much lower purchase price. Just as you can find high-end, high-quality brands that use far superior manufacturing techniques and raw materials and therefore cost more. Quality features in a laptop or notebook will vary the cost greatly, with upgraded soundcards, superior graphics systems, increased memory and processing power all contributing to a higher purchase price.

Cost

Considering all factors the smaller notebooks with fewer features cost less than the larger, more powerful, feature-packed laptops. Roughly, an average notebook can be purchased new for around $300 to $400, while an average laptop can cost between $600 and $1,200. The absolute top laptops will cost considerably more, such as $2,000 for some models. Refurbished laptops can often be found for considerably less and will work just as well if from a reputable dealer.
