Decorate For Any Western Christmas

Add a western flair to traditional Christmas decor.

If you live in the Southwest or just love the cowboy lifestyle, give your Christmas decor a western flair. Incorporate Southwestern-inspired elements, such as desert sunset hues and traditional western fabrics and textiles into a traditional Christmas decor scheme. Create a charming rustic look using natural colors and rough-hewn materials. If you're looking for creative inspiration while enhancing your home for the holidays, watch your favorite classic western film as you decorate.

Instructions

1. Set up a Christmas tree. Spread natural hay around the bottom of the tree instead of a traditional skirt or use a piece of rustic burlap as another, less messy, option.

2. Decorate the tree with western-inspired ornaments. Hang ornaments in shapes such as a boot, spur, cactus, chili pepper, star, cowboy hat and horse on tree branches using pieces of twine instead of hooks. Display vintage cow bells from the tree branches for an authentic flair. Top the tree with a rustic tin star.

3. Wrap rope around the tree in place of a traditional garland. Choose string lights featuring desert-inspired colors, such as sunset orange and yellow, chili pepper red and cactus green.

4. Use a wagon wheel for a wreath. Decorate it with wired sprigs of red berries and pine branches prior to displaying it on a wall or your front door.

5. Hang whimsical cowboy boot-inspired stockings from a fireplace mantel. Embellish the stocking with silver spur and buckle-shaped pins.
