Paint in the Modernism Style
Painting in the modernism style is akin to breaking the laws of tradition in any art form. Modernist painters redefine visual art by shaking up the institutions. Paint your own modernist piece and break your own rules.
Instructions
Create an Original Painting in the Modernist Style
1. Find a surface to paint on. It can be paper or canvas, but consider the definition of visual art. What does the definition of visual art tell you to paint on as a surface? No surface is specified, so feel free to choose any surface you want.
2. Choose a type of paint and encourage yourself to try something unusual. You can use any kind of paint or you can try something off the wall. Anything that can leave a permanent mark on your surface of choice will work.
3. Pick something to paint with. The paintbrush is just an obvious choice. It is not necessarily the right choice for you. It can be your hands, your feet, a broom or a hockey stick. It does not matter as long as you are not letting rules and tradition make your choice for you.
4. Decide on a subject matter that is entirely unique or depict it in an entirely unique way. Look through old classic paintings and make note of all the different things people painted. Try to come up with something never painted before.
5. Think of the recent changes in society and incorporate the new ways we look at the world into your painting. For example, in the Internet age of today, the world seems smaller and more accessible to us. Consider how this changes the way we look at and create art. Modernism is a philosophy, as well as a movement.
6. Paint freely. Do not necessarily follow any painting lessons you have learned in the past. Try different kinds of hand movements. Ignore laws of composition and put the focal point of the painting in an odd place like a corner or an edge.
