It can be tricky to make a good line art drawing of a cat. First, cats don't sit still. And second, good line art seems to flow along perfectly with no lines out of place. But if you break it down into steps, a line art drawing of a cat will develop quickly.
Instructions
1. You can try to draw your cat from life. But it's easier to draw him from a photograph. So get a picture of your cat or find a picture online that you like. A good picture for cat line art is one where the cat is in an interesting position. Sitting cats seem to make better line art than sleeping cats.
2. With your pencil, sketch your cat. Be as rough and loose as you want--all these lines will be erased. Continue working on your cat till you have its shape down.
3. Study your cat sketch. Some line art may include details like eyes and nose. Some line art sticks to outline only. You may want to do mostly outline, but some internal details. For example, you may want to add lines for the upper legs, even though they are partly inside the shape of the body. The key is to think through this now before you start to work with your ink pen.
4. With your ink pen, trace the lines you want. You will want to do this in one fluid motion as much as possible. There will be some natural stopping places where the line changes direction. Those are good places to pick up your pen and study your next line before you trace it.
5. Wait until your ink is thoroughly dry, then erase the pencil lines. Consider if you want to add in any more details--for example, the whiskers.
6. Start the process all over with a new cat picture. Eventually you may be ready to try drawing your cat from life, or skipping the pencil step and going straight to the pen.
