Pose In Photo Shoots

You don't have to be a fashion model to have a successful photo shoot. Work with your photographer to make the most of your best assets or improve imperfections. A flattering photo is just a pose and a camera angle away.

Instructions

1. Follow the photographer's directions. Even if your body feels contorted, try to relax and hold the pose. He knows from experience how the angle and lighting will affect the results.

2. Position your shoulders at a three-quarter view (angled about 45 degrees away from the camera) when posing for portraits. Sitting with your shoulders square to the camera will lead to a "mug shot" look.

3. Decide if you'd like your face turned directly toward the camera, at a 3/4 view or in profile. If you're self-conscious about your nose or chin, however, you may want to avoid profile shots.

4. Keep your back straight, particularly when sitting. Arch your back slightly to ensure you're not slouching.

5. Experiment with camera angles and body positioning. If you're concerned you look heavy, for example, stand at a 45-degree angle to the camera, place one foot behind the other and all of your weight on the back foot. Combat a double chin by shooting from above (so you're looking up at the camera) or by facing the camera and jutting your chin forward.
