Built into the Windows operating system is a painting program called Paint. Among its many features, Paint can reduce image sizes of files saved within the program. On many websites, uploaded images are restricted to a certain size limit. Paint's image resizer cuts down images to a workable size, and since JPEG image files are not very big, it only takes a few seconds to reduce the size of a JPEG file.
Instructions
1. Click the "Start" button in the lower left corner of your screen. Type the word "Paint" into the search bar. Under the results, click "Paint" under "Programs" to open the application.
2. Click the blue button in the upper left corner of Paint. Select "Open" from the drop-down menu. Double-click the JPEG image to open it in Paint.
3. On the "Home" tab, click "Resize." Two options are available for resizing a JPEG image. The first option, called "Pixels," allows you to change the size of the JPEG file based on the number of pixels. To perform this option, click "Pixels" and type in the new horizontal and vertical measurements. Click "OK" to make the changes. The second option is "Percentage." This option allows you to resize the image by a certain percentage. Select this option by clicking "Percentage." Type in the percentage that you want the horizontal and verticals to be and click "OK."
4. Click "Save."
