Youth Art Programs

Art promotes expression of individuality while expanding career choices for youth.


Arts education plays a vital role in the development of teens to young adulthood.According to research by the National Endowment for the Arts; youths who participate in the arts acquire skills that help them in decision-making, creative thinking and teamwork. Listed below are five youth programs that give students the motivation and confidence and the foundation to pursue a career in art.


Academy of Art University High School Art Program


Established in 1929, Academy of Art University is a design school located in San Fransisco, California. Academy of Art University offers on-site and off-site art classes designed for young people seeking a solid art and design curriculum. The school offers more than 16 study concentrations, including Fashion, Graphic Design, Illustration, Fine Art and Photography. Students can take classes online and on campus.

MoMa Red Studio


Developed by the Museum of Modern Art (MoMa) in New York City, MoMa Red Studio is the result of a collaboration with high school students. The on-site program offers group discussions on contemporary art and working artists and collaborative art sessions. Critically acclaimed artist interviews and intensive art activities make Red Studio an innovative youth art program. Red Studio holds free ongoing Friday night sessions at MoMa for Red Studio members.

Pratt Fine Arts Center


Located in Seattle, Washington, Pratt Fine Arts Center offers extensive art and design classes for youths. Classes include Glassblowing, Jewelry, Metal, Fine Art and Sculpture. Offering classes abroad and scholarships, Pratt gives students a running start into the world of art. Class tuition is free for teens and children.

Visual Arts Center of Richmond


The Richmond, Virginia-based Visual Arts school offers classes encouraging self-expression through visual arts.
