Resizing dozens or even hundreds of image files can be a tedious chore. Fortunately there are several software programs that will do most of the work for you. All you have to do is tell the program how big or small you want your images and then let it go to work resizing entire folders at a time. Many of these programs are free, and they can perform other batch-processing functions on your image files as well.

Instructions

1. Install a graphics program that has a batch resizing feature. Most high-end graphics programs have this capability. You can also download many batch-processing programs for free. Enter terms such as "batch resize" or "batch process images" into your search engine to find one that suits your needs. Some of the popular free software titles include "Photoscape," "IrfanView" and "Batch Image Resizer."

2. Put all the images you wish to resize into one folder.

3. Activate your program's batch processing command. In Adobe Photoshop the commands are "File," "Scripts" and then "Image Processor." Other programs have similar commands that include terms like "batch process," "batch convert" or "convert all." Look at your program's Help file for instructions.

4. Select the folder you want to convert. In some programs you will need to open a folder and press "CTRL-A" to select all the files in the folder.

5. Select the output size and format for your images. Most programs will allow you to set a maximum width and height. This allows portrait and landscape images to maintain their original proportions during the resizing.

6. Select a destination folder.

7. Start the batch processing.
