Draw Cartoon Kids

Draw your own cartoon kids.

Many children love cartoons, comic books and comic strips. And even later in life, many adults still love the same comic strips that they loved as children. Some of them even like to draw their own cartoon characters. You might think at first that you would need to be a professionally trained graphic artist to do this, but in fact most cartoon drawings are fairly simple and made up of basic geometric shapes. If you want to draw a cartoon kid for instance, it is actually a quick and easy process.

Instructions

1. Draw in lightly some large elliptical shapes to represent major parts of the body, the head and the torso. Draw each of the shapes taking into account the angle at which you want the torso and head.

2. Draw in lightly elongated elliptical shapes to represent the upper arms, forearms and hands. Erase those sections of the elliptical shapes that would not show if the shapes were filled. Continue this process, adding legs, fingers and so on.

3. Use the same process to add clothing and hair to the character. Remember that since you're drawing a kid, clothing needs to be appropriate.

4. Add the facial features, including eyes, nose, mouth and ears. Remember that since this is a cartoon character, all facial features should be exaggerated in some way. For example, eyes should be large and round, especially when the character is surprised. But also remember to keep these features simple. An eye can be defined by three circles, representing the eye itself, the iris and the pupil.

5. Use your pencil and eraser to replace the lightly drawn lines with permanent lines. You can now use your pencil to add crisscross shading and shadows if you like, although these are not always necessary.
