1. The definition of a project manager is someone who manages various tasks (cost, resources, tasks, etc.) in an effective and organized fashion.
2. A project manager does everything. That is involved although the project manager is accountable for the delivery of the project, hence needs to do as much as s/he can to complete the project on-time, within or below budget with the allocated resources. A project manager needs to be very organized and really understand project goals and resource needs to be successful with a project.
3. To start as a project manager (PM), I recommend, starting off with managing project tasks and time to understand the complexity. Once your foundation is strong on time and task add cost \ finance management; Then as a PM you will understand how time and money inter-connect. After time and finance, add the most complex is resource management; the focus will be a lot more on soft-skills. Time and cost can be measured and hence managed, resources come in all shapes, size and complexity that cannot be handled as easily.
