Westchester County is home to many orchards.


Westchester County is located in the southeastern corner of New York state, with the island of Manhattan to its south. The county is a rural getaway compared to its neighbor, one of the world's busiest cities. Westchester offers history, as well as wide-open, outdoor activities. Warner Library


The Warner Library is in the Hudson Valley area of Westchester County, in Tarrytown. The library has been part of the community since the Warner family donated in in the 1920s. The town is adjacent to Sleepy Hollow, with all its lore from the story of Ichabod Crane and the headless horseman. The library offers classes, concerts and activities for all ages. The family can enjoy a concert by a local or traveling music act. Story hour for the little ones can be held while mom and dad take in a foreign language or cooking class. Teens may enjoy a beaded jewelry class or a new-run movie, such as "Twilight."

Outhouse Orchards


Outhouse Orchards is located in North Salem, in northern Westchester County. The Orchard is open year-round, offering apple and pumpkin picking, as well as selling Christmas trees. After picking in the orchard, snack on freshly made donuts while browsing items like jams, flowers, cider and fruit. Families can enjoy the fresh air and open space of the orchard together, and then watch as cider, donuts and pies are made fresh on the premises.

Rockefeller State Park Preserve


Rockefeller State Park Preserve is in the Westchester County town of Pleasantville. The Preserve is home to more than 180 species of birds, and a 22-acre lake houses bass that can be caught by licensed fishermen. The grounds are also home to Rockwood Hall, the 220-room, former home of William Rockefeller. The road running alongside the hall was Hudson Valley's first road. The family will find many ways to fill a visit to the Preserve. The park offers picnicking, hiking/strolling paths, horseback riding and cross country skiing in the winter.

New Roc City


New Roc City spans 1.2 million square feet in Westchester County's New Rochelle. The complex is home to a residential area, retail stores and an entertainment section. Families can ride on rides, take in a movie on an IMAX screen, or any one of 18 screens of the movie megaplex, visit the Fun House or enjoy glow-in-the-dark bowling at the Roc n' Bowl. The family can dine at several snack spots or restaurants, including Buffalo Wild Wings, Jani Chinese Restaurant, or the 50s-themed Authentic Cafe, among others.
