You can easily turn a print into canvas at home.
If you have an empty prestretched canvas (or even a piece of unstretched canvas that you want to use for collage or as a wall hanging), you can easily transfer the image from a print onto your canvas, using easy-to-find tools and materials. Transferring a printed image onto canvas is a relatively straightforward procedure, and one that you can accomplish successfully even if you have never transferred images before. With the right preparation, you can complete this project in about an hour.
Instructions
1. Obtain a photocopy or fresh laser print of the image you would like to transfer to canvas. If your image contains text, ask for a reverse print (the final result will be the mirror-image of the print). For best results, complete the rest of the project immediately after obtaining the photocopy or print: fresh prints work best for transferring.
2. Tape the print to the canvas, image-side down. Check that the print is centered on the canvas.
3. Rub the back of the print with a blending marker, pressing firmly to wet the paper. Cover the entire paper, but do not soak it.
4. Rub the back of the wetted print with the back of a large spoon. Press firmly for best transferring results, moving the spoon in a tight circular motion.
5. Peel up a corner of the print and check the canvas for transfer quality. If the transfer is too light, carefully retape the corner of the print. Reapply the blender marker and repeat the spoon burnishing process, as described above.
