Folded Ribbon Ornament The Directions

Create beautiful ornaments using ribbon. Fold ribbon and attach to a foam egg for a whimsical hanging pine cone. This charming ornament is a lovely decoration and is sophisticated enough to be given as a special gift. Using few craft supplies, this folded-ribbon ornament can easily be crafted in less than an hour. This is an easy project for children and it is a wonderful activity for a classroom or child's birthday party.

Instructions

1. Cut 50 pieces of 1-1/2 inch wide ribbon, 3 inches long. You may need more, but do not cut until you need more pieces.

2. Place a 3-inch ribbon strip over the tip of the foam egg. Pin all four corners of the ribbon, using sequin pins. Cross another ribbon over the first and pin the corners. This is the bottom of the folded-ribbon pine cone ornament.

3. Lay one 3-inch ribbon, horizontally with the wrong side up. Fold the top corners to the middle of the bottom edge. Crease the diagonals. The ribbon will resemble a triangle. This is the ribbon fold that will be made on all the 3-inch strips, one at a time, as you construct the ornament.

4. Turn the triangle over with the right side up. Place the point in the center of the covered tip on the egg. Pin only the bottom two corners of the triangle. Repeat with three more triangles to create a ring around the bottom tip of the egg.

5. Make another ribbon fold and place the point a 1/2 inch below the tip of the first ring. Pin the bottom corners. Add additional triangles around the ring, overlapping the edges. Continue with more rings, spaced a 1/2 inch apart, until you are left with 1 inch of the egg still exposed.

6. Cut two pieces of inch-wide ribbon, 12-inches long. Apply hot glue to the top of the egg. Center and cross the ribbon on the exposed top of the egg, with the right sides up.

7. Cut two pieces of 1-1/2 inch ribbon, 10-inches long. Form one ribbon in a ring and overlap the ends 1 inch. Flatten the ring, creating two loops, with the overlap in the center. Apply hot glue to the top of the egg and between the center layers of the ribbon. Place the center of the loops in the glue on the egg. Repeat with the other 10-inch ribbon, crossing it in the opposite direction.

8. Cut a 6-inch piece of craft wire, using wire cutters. Cut a 36-inch length of inch-wide ribbon. Wrap the ribbon around your hand. Slide the ribbon ring off your hand. Flatten the ring and wrap the craft wire around the center. Separate the loops to create a multiloop bow. Hot glue the center of the bow to the top of the egg.

9. Cut a 12-inch length of inch-wide ribbon. Form the ribbon into a ring and overlap the ends 1 inch. Hot glue the ribbon ends to the center top of the egg. This is the folded-ribbon pine cone's hanger.
