Common parade fixtures include marching bands, as well as high school floats.
High schools often provide students with opportunities to take part in such community events as parades. In addition to entertaining the crowd, students get to show their school pride with several high school float ideas for a parade. No matter what type of float design you choose, students will be able to show off their creativity while taking part in a community celebration.
Story Book
Cater to younger parade viewers--act out a scene from a book. Ask your high school students to reflect on their favorite childhood books, and select one to use as a central theme. Use paint, paper and cardboard to create a well-known scene described in the book. Students can dress as book characters and wave at their fans as the float travels along the parade route.
Little Angels
Let your high school students show their angelic side. Decorate your float with a sky blue background. Use pillows and fiber fill to create clouds. Dress float riders in white togas. Create golden harps out of foam for the "angels" to hold. Paint foam circles gold to represent halos. The float riders can relax among the clouds while they strum their harps.
Blast from the Past
Create a float that pays homage to bygone times. Select a decade to depict on your float. Use plywood, cardboard and paint to create such iconic scenes as a soda shop, Woodstock or a disco from the 1970s. Ask students to dress in period clothing, such as poodle skirts, bell bottoms or platform shoes. Act out common scenes from your chosen decade.
Mascot
Let your school mascot take center stage on your parade float. Create a habitat ideal for your mascot. For instance, if your school is known as the Wildcats, create a jungle paradise. If you are the Wizards, focus on a "Harry Potter"-inspired scene. Let your beloved mascot parade around the float as he hands out candy to the crowd.
Let's Read
Promote reading with your float. Hold a fundraiser before the parade. Use the proceeds to purchase children's books. Create a library-themed float, complete with cardboard bookshelves and students dressed as librarians. Emblazon your float with lessons promoting literacy. Give children along the parade route a free book.
