Locate An Agent For Rapping

Find an agent to take your career to the next level.

Most musicians decide to hire an agent at some point in their career. Agents find a variety of work for musicians, including major concerts and tours, voice-over work, and acting roles. Rappers often seek the advice and knowledge of an agent because as solo performers they usually can't discuss important business decisions with fellow band members. Selecting an agent to represent you is an exciting step in your career and will likely present you with new opportunities.

Instructions

1. Research established agencies to find an agent who could represent you. Major agencies prefer to sign rappers already established on major labels, so if you're an independent artist looking for an agent, start with an Internet search to find talent agencies in your city. Smaller agencies usually accept demos from unsigned artists and will contact you to meet in person. Also investigate artists who have a similar style to yours to see if they're working with an agency because some agents specialize in specific genres.

2. Produce a professional demo recording of your music and distribute it online. Make the first few measures of the song and your verses catchy so they will grab an agent's attention.

3. Perform as often as possible. Send your music to booking agents at nightclubs to secure concerts. Agents attend concerts several nights a week to find new artists.

4. Create a buzz around your music by submitting your songs to blogs and music magazines. Agents read blogs and magazines to see what the latest trends are.

5. Talk to other rappers and musicians in all genres, whether at concerts, music events or in online musician forums. Networking is key to establishing long-term relationships that may prove beneficial in the future.

6. Follow up with contacts you make to let people know you are serious about your career. Agents look for productive musicians with a hungry attitude.

7. Hire a lawyer before signing a contract with a talent agent to avoid any financial missteps.
