If you are a nurse and you are looking to advance your career, a master's degree in nursing might be the right choice for you. Master's degree programs will allow you to enhance your nursing skills and pursue a field of specific interest as you advance your career in nursing.

Advance Your Degree and Your Career
1. Obtain a bachelor's degree in nursing. This step is a prerequisite for most programs; however, there are some opportunities for you to earn a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in one program. If you do not have a bachelor's degree in nursing, you may want to seek out those options.
2. Earn your Registered Nurse license. To continue your education in the field of nursing, you will need to hold a valid RN license.
3. Take and pass the Graduate Requisite Exam (GRE). This is a comprehensive test of general knowledge required for admission to most graduate degree programs. Contact the school you wish to attend to find out its requirements for a passing score on the GRE.
4. Spend some time working as a nurse. You will need to have clinical work experience before you can continue to a master's degree program.
5. Find a school and apply for a program. Master's degree programs in nursing exist online and on campus in colleges and universities across America. Consider whether you want to attend school in person or online, and whether you want to commute over a distance or stay close to home. Then choose a school that meets your needs.
