Create A Tshirt Into Something Fashionable

Make an old T-shirt into something new.

Nearly everyone has old T-shirts that are too large or that they simply don't like anymore. Some donate them, others use them as dust rags, while still others simply throw them away. However, there is a way to make an old T-shirt into something new and fashionable. Making over a T-shirt takes very little time and requires very few sewing skills. In fact, you can make over an old T-shirt in an afternoon for a trendy, fashionable new piece of clothing to be worn out in the evening.

Instructions

1. Cut out the collar of your T-shirt, creating a very gentle V-neck or boat neck as you do. Turn your T-shirt inside out and turn down the raw edges of your new neckline about 5/8 of an inch and pin it in place with stick pins. Sew the hem down with a sewing machine and remove the pins.

2. Make your shirt sexy and backless by laying it flat on a clean, sturdy surface. Cut a 10- inch-wide strip out of the back of your T-shirt from the bottom hem to the hem of your new neckline. Turn the new raw edges down, pin them with stick pins and sew them down with a sewing machine.

3. Create cord to keep your shirt together with the 10-inch-wide strip of fabric from the back of your shirt. Cut it into strips about ¼" wide. Stitch two or three of these strips together, end to end. Fold this new, very long strip in half and stitch it down to create a sturdy cord.

4. Snip holes down the cut and hemmed edges of the back of your shirt right next to the stitching for the hemlines. These holes should be just large enough to accept your handmade cord. Cut about eight holes in each edge of the shirt.

5. Lace your handmade cord through the holes in a crisscross pattern, starting from the top of the shirt. Put your shirt on, tighten the laces and tie them in a floppy bow near your waistline. If the cord is long enough, you can also wrap it around your waist to the front and tie it there as an accent.
