You can pick up a magic hat at a magician's shop or as a part of a magic kit. For beginning magicians, a kit is best because it includes directions for a variety of magic tricks.
Instructions
1. Select a hat that's designed to be used in the performance of magic tricks. Such hats come with at least one hidden compartment, and sometimes have small pockets lining the sides as well.
2. Hide an object, such as a stuffed animal, in the bottom compartment of the hat. Show the hat to the audience so they can see nothing is inside. Say your magic words and pull out your stuffed animal for the finale.
3. Set the magic hidden bottom of your magic hat on top of a table that also contains a hidden opening. Put a live animal that's quiet by nature, such as a rabbit, in the table. Show the audience the empty hat, then complete the trick by pulling out a living rabbit.
4. Attach invisible thread made of fine strands of nylon to an object you want to make levitate from your magic hat. Place one end of the thread between your fingers, then wave your hands above the hat to command the object to rise up magically.
5. Place a small and very light egg on invisible thread and attach it to the top of a handkerchief. Make a show of wadding up the hankie, only to find the egg. Drop the egg into the magic hat and shake out the hankie to begin again. Repeat this several times and then show your audience the empty hat instead of one filled with eggs.
6. Cut a deck of cards to display a specific card, such as the six of spades. Lift the six of spades high in your left hand and show the audience the empty hat. Wave your left hand quickly so the card falls into your coat sleeve, and pull another six of spades from the hat, hidden in a secret pocket.
