Magicians have been dazzling people with their wild tricks for centuries. Most magicians keep their greatest tricks a secret to enhance their level of mystique. While magicians like David Copperfield and David Blaine may never reveal their secrets, there are still many cool magic tricks that are easy and fun to perform.
Mending Broken Spoons
This simple trick will make it appear as if you just fixed a broken spoon with your mind. First, you must prepare your props. Take an old spoon and cut it in half. Be extremely careful while cutting. Make sure you sand off the rough edges of the cut. Keep this spoon in a pocket on a jacket, shirt, or pants. The pocket should be wide enough to grab the spoon easily, but not wide enough to let people see the spoon.
Begin by palming the half spoon into your left hand by cupping your fingers slightly around the bowl. This should be done while you speak to keep attention away from your hands. Hold a full spoon in your right hand. As you grab the full spoon with your left hand, work the half spoon out of your left hand so that the bowl of the spoon appears. The half spoon and the whole spoon will appear to be one in your hands. Move your hands around, bending and twisting your hands. The spoon will appear to flex and break in your hands. When you are finished with this action, say that you will fix the spoon by saying some magic words. Move your hands apart dramatically and drop the whole spoon. While the crowd looks at the full spoon, pocket the half spoon.
Cards Out of Thin Air
This simple trick is a great way to effectively warm up an audience before going on to more difficult tricks. All tricks require fast hand movements, but this one simply cannot exist without it. Take a stack of cards and palm it in your hand. Don't hold a lot of cards. This will look awkward, will appear more obvious, and be more difficult to perform. Use your thumb to push the card up into your fingertips. Fling your hand forward quickly while you push the card. This will make it appear to jump right into your hand. Throw this card into the audience and quickly slide another card up in the same way. This trick is most effective if done rapidly before the audience has any time to react or think about what they saw. Practice it in the mirror to perfect your routine.
Jumping Matches
This is another easy trick to perform that will really get a good response out of onlookers. Take two matches from a matchbox. Place one of the matches in the palm of your left hand with the tip of the match off of the palm slightly. Use your pointer and thumb finger to pick up the second match. Rub it on your sleeve. Claim that you are giving it "static electricity" or "charging it's magic" or something like that. Bring the right matchstick down to touch the head of the left. While everyone is looking at the tips of the matchsticks, use your thumb in your right hand to snap the matchstick back. This is another trick that must be done quickly. If people stop to think about the trick, they'll start to wonder if you couldn't just fling the match with your fingers. Do the trick quickly without thinking and it'll be most effective.
