Summer theater programs in Manhattan offer a wide range in terms of length, intensity and cost, making it relatively easy for families to find the one that best suits their child.
Atlantic Acting School
The Atlantic Acting School, founded by David Mamet and William H. Macy, has provided world-renowned actor training for 20 years. Kids and teenagers interested in attending a summer program at the Atlantic have several options. For ages 6 to 9, the school offers the NY Summer Youth Arts Program. The program lasts for eight weeks, but children can register for one or more weeks at a time. Participants will have daily classes in a wide variety of areas, from acting and storytelling to mask making. Children from 10 to 13 can register for the NY Summer Young Actors Workshop, a two-week session designed to introduce young actors to playwriting, scene work and improv. Teenagers from 14 to 18 can be a part of the four-week Summer Teen Ensemble, a program geared toward teaching young actors the Atlantic techniques of voice, speech and movement, as well as offering them workshops in other areas.

Children's Acting Academy Summer Camp
The Children's Acting Academy serves young people (children ages 4 to 8), pre-teens and teen actors. All age groups engage in the same type of training, but children can choose to sign up for between one and nine weeks of camp. Throughout the summer, guest artists teach classes in acting, improv, movement, commercial and audition techniques, and musical theater. Campers gain first-hand experience from professionals in fields from casting and management to performing.

Stella Adler Summer Teen Conservatory
The Stella Adler Studio of Acting was founded in 1949 and was the first professional training school to be affiliated with the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU. For teenagers ages 14 to 17, Stella Adler offers a five-week conservatory designed for only the most dedicated young performers. Admission to the school is determined by an interview and an audition. Teenagers will learn basic acting elements of the Stella Adler philosophy, while developing their physical and creative abilities.

Camp Broadway
Camp Broadway offers weeklong summer camp sessions for children ages 6 to 18. For the youngest children, the week consists of a comprehensive look into the world of professional theater. Campers will experiment with music, dance and crafts as well as give a presentation at the end of the week. Children ages 10 to 17 can take part in Camp Broadway's Original Summer Camp program, an intensive week that includes classes in singing, movement, voice and acting, as well as a series of master classes with professional artists and a ticket to a Broadway musical. Teenagers from 15 to 18 whose skills are a bit more advanced can apply for the Next Step Program, which allows them more small group work and one-on-one coaching, as well as the opportunity to work directly with Broadway-caliber professionals.

Broadway Artists Alliance
Broadway Artists Alliance accepts musical theater performers ages 10 to 21 in its Summer Intensive Programs. Participants can concentrate in dance, acting or music and take part in their choice of over 30 classes, including scene work, auditioning, Shakespeare, choreography and more. Summer sessions end with a Student Showcase, with performers demonstrating their work for invited guests and industry professionals.
