Create Sprites

A sprite is a 2D image used to represent objects in video games or animated videos.

A sprite is a 2D drawing used in video games to represent the objects within the game. Basically, the sprite is what the object looks like. Sprites are also used in animation videos, particularly 3D animation videos. Creating a sprite can be done in many ways and then imported into the 3D, game-making or video-making software you are using to create the video game or video you want to use the sprite in. There is no need to download software to create your sprite since your computer already comes with a 2D image editing program called "Paint."

Instructions

1. Click the "Start" button and then click "All Programs." The Start button will be located on the left side of the tool bar.

2. Click "Accessories" and then click "Paint" to open up the Paint program in your computer.

3. Create the sprite using the tools on the left side of the screen. For example, if you want to create a stick figure sprite, click the "Ellipse" tool and drag the mouse at the center of the screen until you have a circle for the head of the size and shape you want. Then create the body by clicking on the "Line" tool and dragging a straight line down from the bottom-center of the circle you just drew. Draw a line across the top of the first line to create the arms and two diagonal lines away from the bottom of the first line to create the legs (one on each side). The sprite can be as simple as this stick figure or as complex as you want.

4. Save the sprite by clicking "File" then "Save," typing in the name for the file and then clicking "Save." Name the file something like "stickfiguresprite1" or "sprite1."

5. Import the sprite you created into the program you are using to create your video game or animated video. How this is accomplished will depend on the program you are using. However, the usual steps include clicking "File" then "Import," browsing for your saved sprite file, selecting it, and clicking "Open" or "Import."
