Skits and short plays are a great way to spice up a church service or Sunday school class. Religious teaching can be emphasized with funny parables or anecdotes that keep an audience's attention and relate Christian ethics to real-world situations.
Instructions
1. Decide on a message. The purpose of a Christian comedy skit is to relate a deeper meaning or message through comedy. Let the message lead you to the skit, rather than the other way around.
2. Find or write a script. There are plenty of free Christian scripts, but you may decide to write your own to tailor the message to your congregation. Parodies of popular media are a great way to start a script. Examples include parodies of reality shows, movies or game shows.
3. Find actors. Choose people in your church who are comfortable being in front of an audience, or have experience with public speaking. Often a self-conscious performer takes away from the impact of a skit if they are too nervous.
4. Practice your skit. Don't wait until the hour before the performance to practice. Especially if you are making biblical references that may be hard to pronounce, you need to practice with your actors at least once. Ask a handful of people to watch the skit and give you feedback. Did your message come through? Was it funny?
5. Perform without apologies. No skit is going to please every person in your audience. Perform the skit knowing you believe in your message and want people to learn. If mistakes happen, improvise. Some of your funniest moments may come from improvised reactions from or to the audience.
