You alone hold the keys to your success.
Corporate chieftain Anthony "Tony" Robbins has been a motivational speaker for more than 30 years. He focuses on the psychology of being a successful leader, including helping individuals transform the quality of their lives (life coaching) and training leaders who come from some of America's top corporations. Below is the seven-step strategy that he has employed in helping others to set goals in personal achievement, inner balance and time and life management.
Think: Get Clear
Know and understand, without a doubt, what you are trying to accomplish in life. Clarity is essential on where we are going, even if we are not yet sure of the best direction to take. Knowledge about set goals in absolutely essential when seeking a clear direction.
Reflect: Get Certain
We have often heard the words "You are your own worst enemy." Tony Robbins' words are "Life will pay any price that we ask of it." Knowing what we want and ask for it carries an aspect of certainty, or confidence, that will tell us whether or not we are on the right path to our goals.
Act: Get Excited
Motivation to move toward a goal requires some level of excitement. If we are not excited about reaching a goal, we don't act on it; and attaining a goal requires action. Excitement, or enthusiastic action, is a key primer when it comes to moving forward on a step toward a goal, whether it is long or short-term.
Visualize: Get Focused
Resolutions, no matter what time of year they are made, are not the necessary energy that we need to get focused. A set of resolutions (a "wish list"), if written down, helps us to get it on paper. But we don't act on wishes, we act on pre-determined actions or goals.
Move: Get Committed
"There's no abiding success without commitment," claims Robbins. When we know what we want, are certain that we want it, are excited about it and are focused on achieving it, a natural alliance starts to shift and point us in the right direction. That alliance is called commitment and it will pull us through even when we are in a slump. Commitment compels us to go forward with our goals, no matter what.
Keep Moving: Get Momentum
We've often heard the words "Knowledge is power." It is not necessarily true. Knowledge is the 'key to power,' the power only comes when we take what we know and apply it to our actions. Instead of just holding the key, we use the key to twist and turn the lock and unlock the door to step in. That keeps the momentum going; not just knowing, but knowing and doing.
Re-think: Get Smart
Getting smart is about understanding that goals are made to be broken. Breaking them doesn't necessarily mean we failed. It means that we have the foresight to re-think them and take another direction. It means that we understand that nothing is written in stone. But if the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results, then some things could be written in acid. Smartness in goal-setting means understanding when we may need to take another direction to get where we are going and then changing directions, even if it means taking the longer way around to the target result.
