Create A Clown Suit

Clown costumes generally involve primary colors and face paint.

Clowns are a staple of the world of entertainment whose appearance is commonly designed to project a very overt and evocative image to their audiences. Their costumes generally incorporate colored wigs, face paint, over-sized clothes and shoes, and facial prosthetics. If you are planning on dressing up as a clown to entertain children or attend an adult costume party, you can fashion a passable costume for a small amount of money, and possibly using things you have around the home.

Instructions

1. Select clothes that are loud and garish, with bright and expressive patterns. Look for polka dots, multicolored horizontal stripes, clothes that incorporate suspenders and similar attire. Be sure that they will allow you to move around freely, as clowns are expected to be extremely active during their performances.

2. Choose a wig that is both large and colorful. Make sure it does not cover your face, as your expressions will be a key component of your performance. If you are going to incorporate a funny hat into your costume, make sure that it is attached securely to the wig.

3. Put on your face paint and makeup before putting on your clothes. Apply a layer of basic white face paint that covers your entire face, neck and any parts of your chest that will be exposed. Make an oversized outline of your lips and eyes that conveys an expression of happiness. Be sure to use bright and cheerful colors.

4. Allow your face paint and makeup to set and then put on your clothes and wig to complete the costume.
