Airbrushing is a versatile art technique that can be used in a variety of mediums, including canvas, vehicles and even fingernails. Airbrushing can also be used to decorate the walls of your home, either freehand or using stencils. Whether you're a professional artist or a beginner who uses stencils, you can use your wall as a blank canvas to create an array of colorful designs that will have guests to your home talking.
Instructions
1. Sketch a design if you plan to do the designs on your wall freehand. Even if you are skilled with an airbrush, turning your sketches into stencils can be helpful. A stencil can allow you to create your wall designs without having to worry about an unsteady hand. Select and lay out your stencils ahead of time if you plan to work with stencils from the start.
2. Hang stencils on the wall using masking tape. Be sure the masking tape extends between 3 and 5 inches beyond the edge of the stencil to help prevent over spray. Arrange all of the stencils you will be using ahead of time so you will be able to focus strictly on the painting. Use your sketches and planned layout if you aren't using stencils.
3. Attach the appropriate nozzle to your air gun and attach your paint cartridge to your gun per the instructions for your particular model. Use a 0.6mm nozzle for spraying large areas of your design. Hold the nozzle between 3 and 5 inches from the surface of the wall, steady your gun hand by holding your wrist with your free hand and apply the paint in short bursts, moving your hand slowly to keep the application even. Allow the paint to dry before removing the stencils.
4. Outline your stenciled images by attaching a 0.4mm needle to your gun. Steady your gun hand, hold the needle 2 or 3 inches from the outline of your design and go around the edge of the design to outline it.
