Sell Photos On Istock

You can buy and sell images at iStockphoto.

The iStockphoto company touts itself as the Web’s first member-generated image and design community. The website sells a large variety of royalty-free images, audio and video files. Anyone can become a contributor at iStockphoto by joining the website, submitting an application, passing a test and having three sample photos approved. Applying for membership at iStockphoto is free.

Instructions

1. Go to the iStockphoto website (see Resources). At the top right corner of the page, click "Sign Up." Enter the necessary information to create your account.

2. Click on "Sell stock: Become a contributing artist" after leaving the registration page. Under photos, click "Apply" to apply to be a photo contributor. You’ll be taken to the iStockphoto training manual for photographers. It’s recommended that you read through this information, because it covers necessary information like copyrights, content quality standards, titles and keywords.

3. Click "Continue to Application" after you’re finished reading the manual. Choose a user name and complete your membership profile.

4. Complete the photography manual quiz. The quiz covers different topics found in the photographer training manual, such as questions about model releases and photo quality. The quiz is about 20 questions long and should take 10 to 20 minutes to complete, depending on your understanding of the material.

5. If you pass the quiz, continue to the next page and agree to the Artist Supply Agreement and upload a copy of your photo ID. The agreement addresses topics like payment terms and rights to ownership. If you fail the quiz, go over your incorrect answers and try again.

6. Upload three samples of your work. The sample photos uploaded must measure at least 1,200 x 1,600 pixels each.

7. Submit your application. Once accepted, you’ll be allowed to upload files to iStockphoto to sell.
