Stove top stills can be made at home.
A still is a piece of equipment used to prepare distilled alcoholic beverages. Though illegal to use, a still is not illegal to build. Still building has intrigued hobbyists for many years. In a working still, the components of the wine evaporate at various temperatures and the alcohol that is collected evaporates at a temperature of 173 degrees Fahrenheit. As the evaporation of the alcohol starts it comes in contact with the ice filled bowl and condenses. It starts dripping in the glass. This information is solely for educational purposes and does not support preparation of alcohol in any manner.
Instructions
1. Check the equipment carefully before assembling. The thermometer should be capable of measuring above 212 degrees Fahrenheit. The mixing bowl should get tightly fixed on the cooking pot. Make sure there is no space between the cooking pot and the mixing bowl. The strength of the magnet should be enough to hold the drinking glass securely to the center of the cooking pot.
2. Wash and clean all the items, along with the magnet. Position the drinking glass in the middle of the cooking pot. Place the magnet carefully in the glass in order to hold it in place while cooking. Place the cooking pot on the stove burner.
3. Prepare the ingredients. Transfer the wine to the cooking pot, without letting it spill into the drinking glass. Put the ice in the mixing bowl along with the weight and keep the bowl at the mouth of the cooking pot to create a seal.
4. Turn the stove burner on high. Once the temperature reaches the 120 degrees Fahrenheit mark, lower the heat of the stove. The temperature should be carefully controlled from this point. Gradually allow the temperature to rise to 212 degrees Fahrenheit in the next 30 to 45 minutes. Once it reaches the 212 mark turn off the flame and remove the glass.
