Thumbing through a comic
If you are an enthusiastic collector of comic books, at some point you will want to find out if the comic is valuable or if it can be thrown away. The comic book market is ever changing, and while certain comics will always be valuable, others may be in the future. There are a number of ways to tell if the comic books you own are collectible and command a price higher than the purchase price.
Instructions
1. Look carefully at your comic book to determine what condition it is in. Curled or creased pages and covers, yellowed pages, torn pages and other defects can bring down the value of the book. A comic is only "mint" if it has no flaws.
2. Invest in the latest edition of "The Wizard Guide to Comics" or "The Official Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide." Both of these books are available at your local comic book store and occasionally in stores where comics and magazines are sold. Look up the title, volume number and issue number of your comic to determine the latest value.
3. Do a search for the comic name, volume and issue number on auction websites such as eBay.com and comics.ha.com. What others are paying for the same issue will give you a good idea of what it is worth.
4. Check online price guides such as comicspriceguide.com, nostomania.com and wizarduniverse.com. These sites have many comic book prices that are not in the printed price-guide versions.
5. Allow the owner or manager of your local comic book store to help you determine value. While the price offered for the comic may be less than what you can get elsewhere, he can help you determine if the comic is worth more than the cover price.
