Smooth And Polish Granite

Smooth and polish granite with a stone polisher.

There are many reasons a homeowner should smooth and polish granite. If the granite surface is purchased natural--unpolished and rough--you must smooth and polish the granite before installing it inside the home. The granite surface may be dull or worn because of excessive daily use and natural wear and tear, also necessitating restoration. No matter what the reason, there are simple ways to smooth and polish the granite if you're willing to put in the time and effort.

Instructions

1. Spray a stone cleaner, recommended for natural stone materials such as granite, liberally onto the granite surface. Scrub the surface of the granite stone with a soft cloth, wiping the cleaner over every square inch of the granite.

2. Rinse the stone cleaner off the granite surface, using another clean cloth and warm water. Dip the cloth into the clean water to wash off the stone cleaner, and continue to wash any remaining cleaner residue off the granite surface, using the warm water.

3. Attach a coarse-grit sanding pad to a stone polisher. Turn the stone polisher on and begin sanding the granite surface in smooth, back-and-forth motions. Continue to use the coarse-grit sanding pad until you have finished smoothing the entire granite surface.

4. Remove the coarse-grit sanding pad and attach a medium-grit sanding pad to the stone polisher. Smooth the entire surface of the granite with the medium-grit sanding pad in the same way you did the coarse-grit pad.

5. Remove the medium-grit sanding pad and attach a fine-grit sanding pad to the stone polisher. Smooth the granite until you have reached the desired smoothness of the surface.

6. Wipe the granite surface clean with a clean cloth dampened slightly with water. Allow the granite to dry for up to 24 hours.

7. Rub granite sealer onto the granite with a clean cloth. Allow the granite sealer to dry for the recommended amount of time as directed on the label.
