Tether The Htc Pro2 To Some Laptop

The Touch Pro2 uses a mini USB cable to transfer files from a computer.

The HTC Touch Pro2 was one of the only smartphones to be released on all major U.S. cellular providers. The different models feature varying layouts and software packages. Unfortunately, one thing that they have in common is a lack of tethering ability--the standard Bluetooth networking function has been removed for all models. Luckily, there's third-party software that allows you to tether your laptop to your Touch Pro2 via WiFi--no extra connection software is necessary on the computer.

Instructions

1. Turn on your computer and log in. Start your favorite Internet browser and navigate to the "WMWifiRouter" download page (see Resources). Click the "Download WMWifiRouter.cab (English Only)" link and save the file to your desktop.

2. Close your Internet browser. Connect your Touch Pro2 phone to the computer via the USB cable. Make sure the microSD card is inserted into its slot beneath the phone's battery cover.

3. Click the "Start" button, then "Computer" or "My Computer." Click and drag the WMWifiRouter.cab file from your desktop to the phone, SD card or external drive that popped up in the "Computer" or "My Computer" window. When the file transfer is complete, unplug the phone from the computer.

4. Remove the stylus from the phone. Tap "Start," then "Programs," then "File Explorer." Navigate to the WMWifiRouter.cab file in the "/sdcard/" directory. Double-tap it and follow the instructions in the installer window. Tap "Next" and "OK" as necessary. When the installer completes, tap "Start," then "Programs," then "WMWifiRouter."

5. Start the WiFi router on the phone by tapping "Cellular to WiFi." Switch to your computer. Disconnect from the wired or wireless network you used to download the installer package. Double-click the WiFi icon in the bottom right-hand corner. Double-click the WMWifiRouter SSID and connect. You are now using your phone's cellular connection as a WiFi access point.
