Schools For Silk Screen Printing

Silk-screening can enable you to create your own interesting T-shirt designs.


Silk-screening is the process by which a design is imprinted onto fabric using a special screen and ink. Also known as screen printing, this technique is popular because of its low cost and the interesting and colorful designs that are able to be created. The silk screening process goes back to ancient China and Japan, when stencils were made to produce designs on cloth. Today, several schools allow students to learn apply this ancient technique using modern materials.

Classes are geared for beginners who want to learn start a career in the silk screening business. The two-day classes include lunches and dinners. The class includes technical information, such as set up a screen printing room, the basic techniques of the art and tips for preparing print placements. The second day is a hands-on course in screen printing where students create screen prints on clothing.

California Screen Printing Class and Workshop


Each month Screen Printing Services offers a one-day "boot camp" screen printing class at its offices in Ranch Cucamonga, California. Classes are on Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Students will learn screen print T-shirts and other textiles, as well as learn heat transfer options. Business setup requirements are discussed, as well as digital technologies and the ins and outs of graphics design software and artwork preparation. Screen Printing Services will also set each student up with a Wholesale Apparel Suppliers account. For each student to receive one-on-one training, classes are limited to five students. For students flying in from other parts of the country for the class, Screen Printing Services will provide airport and hotel transportation to and from class.

School of Screenprinting


The School of Screenprinting is strictly an educational company and does not endorse or sell any products. The school offers monthly two-day seminars in Austin, Texas; Manapalan, New Jersey; and Mexico City, Mexico. Classes are held on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. each day. Course cost includes all materials and the screen printing workbook. Both beginning workshops and advanced workshops are available. A one-year vocational program offers students the chance to work in the screen printing trade while mastering the craft.
