Customize your fishing lures with different paints.
Powder paint is a dry paint medium that can be applied either by the bristles of a brush or through the force of an airbrush. The paint bonds to the item being painted, such as a fishing lure, with heat. Using the airbrush is a simple method, which affords you the ability to create a smooth, professional finish without a lot of added effort. The airbrush is ideal for lures because it can help you achieve a coloring that will mimic the natural tones you want when fishing.
Instructions
1. Hold the lure with the tips of a pair of needle nose pliers. Try to limit how much of the lure is covered by the pliers.
2. Pass the lure over the flame of a propane torch until the lure is heated thoroughly. Depending on how strong your torch is, this may take several minutes.
3. Fill the pot of powder paint airbrush halfway with the color of powder paint you want to apply to your lure and screw it into the airbrush. Connect the air compressor hose to the intake valve of the airbrush.
4. Hold the pliers so that the surface of the lure where you want to paint is held up vertically and start to spray the powder onto the lure.
5. Stop spraying if the powder doesn't spread onto the lure in a clean, smooth way. Reheat the lure at this point until it is hot again and resume spraying. You can reheat as often as you need to in order to maintain a consistent look.
6. Move the pliers into a different spot on the lure to expose the portions that were covered previously. Heat the lure again and cover these naked spots in the same way you did for the others.
