Wedding gift baskets look impressive even with dollar store gifts.
A wedding shower is a time to celebrate, showing your love and generosity to the newlywed couple. But sometimes wedding showers occur at a time when you don't have extra spending money. Assembling a gift basket with items from a dollar store is a creative and practical way to show your support without spending over your budget. With the right amount of thoughtfulness, your gift basket will look as impressive as a much more expensive gift.
Instructions
1. Write a list of ideas. Consider the couple's tastes, interests, plans and hobbies. For instance, they may be moving into a new house, planning an exotic honeymoon, or taking gourmet cooking lessons together. Choose a general theme for the gift basket to guide your choices.
2. Select and purchase a gift basket. Most dollar stores offer an array of baskets. Look for one large enough to easily hold all your gifts. If possible, choose a basket in a bridal color, such as white, pastel pink or silver, or with romantic accents, such as flowers or hearts. Alternatively, choose a basic basket and add bridal decorations later.
3. Purchase a variety of items. When possible always look for items that seem more durable. Also choose attractive packaging whenever available. If there are numerous dollar stores in your area, check each one to find the best deals and broadest variety of items. Focus on your chosen theme, but leave room for any extras that catch your attention.
4. Arrange the items. If the basket is spacious, use a filler, such as crinkle-cut cellophane in white, silver or gold. Arrange the items according to their sizes. For instance, place the tallest items in the back of the basket and shorter items in front. Alternatively, place the tallest items in the very center of the basket and arrange the smaller items around the rim.
5. Decorate the basket. Place the finished basket in the center of a large piece of tulle. A yard is usually sufficient. Gather the tulle around the basket, with all ends meeting at the top, and tie a decorative knot. Cut off the excess tulle. Add extra decorations near the knot, such as a bow or ribbon. Alternatively, before you wrap the basket, sprinkle rose petals or confetti over the gifts.
