Keep Weasels From Your Yard

Weasels like living on farms because of the abundance of food available.

Three species of weasels live in North America. The most common is the long-tailed weasel which lives in the Continental United States. Weasels eat small rodents and small birds. If your yard has a source of food and water for the weasel , the weasel will make your yard its home. Various methods of keeping the weasel out of your yard exist, but the easiest and most humane method is to remove all food and water supplies for the weasel.

Instructions

1. Remove all food sources from your yard. This includes animal feed for dogs, cats, and farm animals. Keep the food inside the house. or lock it up in a box or container. If you have a chicken pen, make sure the chicken pen is secured at night and all holes over 1 inch in size are covered.

2. Inspect your yard for locations where you have rats. Look for rat droppings and holes in wood that have been made by rats. Place a rat trap near the rat droppings and openings. Leave the rat trap in place for a few days until you capture the rat. Dispose of the rat trap and the rat. Continue placing rat and mouse traps until all rats and mice are gone.

3. Remove all water sources from your yard. Look for buckets full of water or any other container with water and remove the water. Leave the bucket upside down, so the bucket does not fill up with water again. After a few weeks, the weasel will stop entering your yard when it realizes it can no longer find food or water near your yard. If the weasel keeps entering your yard, contact animal control for help.
