A cheeseburger is an essential element of the backyard barbecue. It's possible to make a cheeseburger recipe without animal products. Suitable for vegans, hamburger patties and cheese typically made from soy-beans are easy to find. They are a source of low fat protein with low levels of saturated fat and cholesterol. And because the vegan food industry has evolved, they taste as good as the real thing.
Instructions
1. Print out the following grocery list: sesamied hamburger buns, vegan patties, vegan cheddar cheese, tomatoes, onions, lettuce, pickles, ketchup, mustard, vegetable oil and barbecue sauce. Decide how many cheeseburgers you want to make.
2. Go to a supermarket or health food store. You are less likely to find vegan products in grocery or convenience stores but you can try. Buy the items listed in Step 1. This recipe does not depend on exact quantities. Use your judgement to buy the correct quantities.
3. Prepare the vegetables. Wash them first. Slice the tomato and onion. Chop or shred the lettuce. Keep them in separate containers.
4. Cook the burgers. Apply a film of vegetable oil on the grill to prevent sticking. You can use an oven grill but a charcoal barbecue is preferred. Cook the patties for no more than 10 minutes. Although they come pre-cooked you need to grill them for flavor. Add half a teaspoon of barbecue sauce on each patty before flipping it so that it can absorb extra flavor. Add a slice of cheese per patty, one minute before removing it from the grill. Toast the buns to a brown on the grill.
5. Stack the vegan cheeseburger from the bottom up. Put the bottom bun on a plate. Add a teaspoon of mustard. Put the patty on top. Add a teaspoon of ketchup. Add a tomato slice. Put pickles. Add onions and lettuce. Close it by adding the top bun. Pressure gently from the top so that it stays intact.
6. Serve the recipe and enjoy. It is preferable that you serve them with some side salad and french fries. You can make the salad from the left over vegetables and with salad dressing.
