The Dying & Existence Of Superman

The death and life of Superman

Renowned for his ability to fly and his practically indestructible body, superhero Superman was created in the 1930s by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Sixty years later, however, DC Comics killed off Superman in one of their issues, if only for a brief period of time.

Death

A 1992 comic, aptly titled "The Death of Superman", features the superhero engaging in a battle with the deadly machine Doomsday and eventually succumbing to life-threatening injuries.

Famous Ties

In subsequent comics, a host of famed superheroes mourned Superman's passing including Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Batman, Wonder Woman and Supergirl.

Impostors

In the months following his death, Superman's body was stolen from its tomb. As a result, a host of impostors, including The Man of Tomorrow and The Last Son of Krypton, took on the form of Superman, claiming to be the superhero brought back to life.

Rebirth

The death of Superman was short-lived. In the 1993 "Reign of the Supermen" series, Superman was brought back to life when it was discovered that he was not dead but rather stuck in suspended animation.

Powers Returned

Unfortunately the reborn Superman lacked his usual powers. However, following a battle with the villainous Cyborg and a deadly amount of Kryptonite, as well as the selfless sacrifice of his friend the Eradicator, Superman's powers were restored.
