't Be Awkward Throughout A Photoshoot

Give yourself something to do to prevent awkwardness in photographs.

Having your photograph taken can be a stressful event for many people. The thought of being in front of the camera often makes individuals nervous. When being photographed, those nerves are generally translated into the photograph as awkward expressions and stances. Overcoming awkwardness during a photo shoot is possible. There are multiple exercises and steps you can take to help calm your nerves and make your photo shoot an enjoyable experience.

Instructions

1. Take the photo shoot in your home or a place in which you are very familiar. Having surroundings that you are already comfortable in can naturally help reduce awkwardness.

2. Add props to your photographs to give yourself something to do. Hold a guitar or flower to keep your arms and hands from hanging awkwardly at your side. Lie on a couch or sit on a chair if you feel awkward just standing.

3. Take an action shot to keep your mind off of being in a photo shoot. Choose an action that represents your personality. For example, if you enjoy dancing, your pose for the shot can be of you dancing a few steps.

4. Chose clothing and makeup that make you feel good about yourself. Take confidence in your appearance, and it will be apparent in your photographs. Experiment with colors and accessories; don't be afraid to try new things.

5. Engage in short conversation with the photographer between photos. Ask the photographer questions or trade jokes to make the photo shoot more comfortable and give it a more relaxed feel. Avoid talking constantly, which can prevent the photographer from taking photographs. Keep the conversation light and brief.

6. Ask the photographer to take a break mid-way through the photo shoot. Treat yourself to a cup of coffee or tea to help you relax. Chat with the photographer so that you can get to know him better, which will help you feel more at ease modeling in front of him.

7. Research the photographer for your photo shoot before hiring her. Ask your family and friends for their recommendations. Check online for reviews of the photographer. Avoid photographers that have been rude to others or have made others feel uneasy about themselves. Choose a professional photographer that has done many similar photo shoots before, as she often has her own ways to help her subjects appear less awkward.
