Having a ballet barre installed in the home can be beneficial for personal wellbeing. It can also be used by an inspiring ballet dancer to practice. The ballet barre is a tool that supplies support and is utilized for stretching the body prior to dancing. Used by novices and professionals alike, the slow and repetitive warm-ups with the barre help prevent injuries. The barre is not intricate to install nor will it take up space.

Preparation
1. Purchase a wooden pole (technically known as a dowel) from your local hardware or lumber store. The dowel needs to be 2 inches in diameter. Have it cut into the length needed. For one person, 2 to 3 feet in length is sufficient.
2. Pick up two or three closet bar brackets for the dowel. Increase the number of brackets by each foot above 3 feet. Obtain the proper screws and wall anchors for stability.
3. Decide on the height of the barre by measuring the individual who will be using it. Have the person involved stand with their back against the wall. Instruct her to bend her elbows, keeping her hands straight out. The distance from her fingers to the floor should be measured. This creates the proper height. Mark the wall by using a pencil and indicate this height for placement of the barre.
4. Locate and mark where the wall studs are and indicate the area where the brackets will be placed.
5. Sandpaper the dowels for your wooden ballet barre; making sure they are smooth and splinter free. Apply several thin coats of polyurethane tlo finish it off. Allow to dry.

6. Level the marks and make sure that they are lined up correctly before you drill. Once lined up, mark the spots where the screws will be placed before you drill.
7. Using a power drill, carefully install the wall anchors into the wall studs.
8. Attach the wall brackets to the wall and screw in tightly and securely.
9. Lay the barre across the wall brackets and confirm they are even on both sides. Take accurate measurements and mark the wood ballet barre where you plan to drill the holes to attach it to the brackets.
10. Drill holes in the wooden ballet barre and secure into place with screws. Make sure the barre is secure and stable before being used.
