Easy Recipe
Making molding clay is a great activity to involve your children. It will work for school and holiday projects or just as a rainy day craft project. This simple and quick recipe will only take you about 15 minutes to mix and will entertain your children for hours. Making multiple batches and storing them for later use is easy, too.
Ingredients Needed
To make molding clay, you will need flour, salt, alum powder, vegetable oil, water and food coloring (optional). You will also need a mixing bowl, pan to boil water and sealable plastic bags for storage.
Preparation
Clear the space you will use on your counter and stove top to work. Get the appropriate measuring utensils and a wooden spoon for mixing ready to be used.
Measure and Mix Your Ingredients
Bring 1/2 cup water to a boil. Measure 3/4 cup flour, 1/2 cup salt and 1 1/2 tsp. alum powder and place them in the mixing bowl. Mix thoroughly. Add your boiling water and 1 1/2 tsp. vegetable oil to your dry ingredients. If you want colored clay, add your choice of food coloring now to obtain the color of your liking. Mix with your wooden spoon until it is cool enough to handle. Complete the mixing with your hands.
Finish Up
The clay can be stored for months in an airtight plastic bag, or you can mold it into the desired shape and allow it to dry overnight.
