Update The Goth Look

Pretty goth eyes

During the colder months of the year, you may find yourself on the prowl for a new way to wear your makeup. With its leanings towards the deep, dark and mysterious, the goth look may very well be what you have been searching for. If you want to try it but are worried it isn't wearable enough for everyday use, look no further. Here's a guide on how you can apply goth-inspired makeup without actually joining the club. The end results are fresh, pretty and actually fashionable for fall and winter, or even year-round if it becomes one of your new favorites.

Instructions

1. Apply makeup primer on a clean, moisturized face. For foundation, use a shade a notch lighter than your natural coloring to make you appear paler, but not as though you are wearing a mask. To achieve this effect, apply a creme foundation all over face with a moist cosmetic wedge. This gives you a flawless, but not heavy, finish. You may have to blend down your neck to make sure there are no lines of demarcation. Dust translucent powder over foundation to maintain a matte finish.

2. Enhance the shape of your eyebrows using a brow pencil or powder in a slightly deeper shade than you normally wear. Use feather-soft strokes to work the color in so your brow makeup doesn't have any harsh lines. Don't just fill in the sparse areas; really bring out the shape of your brows and enhance your arches to add subtle yet evident drama to your face.

3. Use a flesh tone eyeshadow as a base. Apply it from lash line to brow bone. On top of it, stipple on a dark smoky shade from lash line to crease. The color need not be severe such as straight up black. It can be a pretty color like plum or eggplant, as long as it is deep and rich. Using a domed eyeshadow blending brush, buff the edges of the shadow. Use an eyeliner brush to rim the bottom lash lines with the same color. Soften with an eye smudge brush.

4. Run a black thickening mascara through top eyelashes. You may want to apply two coats for dark stunning lashes. Clean up your application by dislodging any clumps between the hairs. Touch mascara wand to bottom lashes to lightly coat them as well.

5. Keep cheeks free from blush. You can, however, bring out your bone structure. Pat a highlighter on the tops of your cheekbones and blend away any obvious lines. On lips, you can use either a lip stain or a creme lipstick. Select a deep, rich color, perhaps one you normally wouldn't wear to make the look distinguishable from the usual face you put on. Again, the color need not be one favored by the traditional goth style. Deep mauves and even rich pink-reds are perfectly acceptable. You need only apply the color to the center of your top and bottom lips, blending outwards with your finger until you reach the boundary of your natural lip line. This gives you deep color on your lips without them appearing too harsh.
