Create A Beach Wreath

Decorate a wreath with seashells to create a beach wreath.

Whether you live by the ocean or not, you can enjoy the beach by making a beach wreath for your home. Hang your beach wreath in your home during the summer months to decorate for the season. Include shells collected from beach vacations in your wreath to give it a personal touch. Packages of shells can also be purchased in most craft stores. Build your wreath on a twig or grapevine wreath form to provide a natural background for your beach treasures.

Instructions

1. Lay a twig or grapevine wreath face up on a flat surface. Gather stems of eucalyptus and grasses into a small bunch. Lay the stems on top of the wreath with their tips protruding outward from the wreath at an angle. Wrap a piece of floral wire around the base of the stems and wreath to secure them in place. Clip any excess tails of wire with wire clippers, and bend the ends up into the back of the wreath.

2. Add additional bunches of eucalyptus and grass to your wreath in the same manner. Layer the bottom of each bunch of stems over the previous bunch. Position the bunches so they are all lying in the same direction and the same angle. Work your way around the wreath until it is covered.

3. Attach seashells and sand dollars to your wreath using a hot glue gun. Start gluing shells around the center of your wreath and slowly work your way outward. Place the large shells on the wreath first, closet to its center.

4. Glue a dried starfish to the bottom right portion of the wreath. Position the starfish over the shells at the desired angle. Add lines of hot glue to the underside of the starfish and press it onto the shells until the glue dries.

5. Tie a bow in a bunch of raffia. Hot glue the raffia bow to the top of the wreath near the center, or the bottom of the wreath near the starfish. Trim the tails of the raffia bow to the desired length with scissors
