Fun Flower Plans

Flower arranging can be enjoyable. Likewise, the end bouquet can sport a cute, funny or lively design and will pick up someone's spirits. Flower arrangements can be just the thing to brighten up a hospital room. Or maybe you have a child who appreciates flowers and you want something that fits a child's room.

Special Occasions

If the arrangement is to coincide with a holiday, add in bits of holiday cheer. For a Christmas bouquet, consider adding in candy canes. For Halloween, make a bare, multi-branched stick the centerpiece and hang little Halloween trinkets: candy corn, tiny ghosts made of cloth squares tied around a cotton ball head, plastic spiders or bats. For New Year's, use a party hat and horn as a focus point. For Mardi Gras, plan the bouquet in green, gold and purple, draping beads around the base of the pot. Every occasion has some associated symbols or items you can use. For a funny bouquet, perhaps use latex gloves as a balloon, tied to a central stake, in the bouquet of someone in the hospital.

Interesting Containers

You can liven up an otherwise average floral arrangement by simply creating it in an unusual container. Try using an old cowboy boot. Or maybe a tea kettle. If using silk flowers, any container with a hole in it that can stand on its own will do. You can always fill the container with a piece of Styrofoam to give the flowers something to stick into so they'll stand up. Look around the house. Perhaps the perfect container for someone is right in the room.

For Kids

Kids love toys and balloons. Consider using these standard favorites. But choose the more unusual toy. Perhaps G.I. Joe is peering from a dense floral arrangement for a sick boy. Don't forget to put in a small cannon or jeep too. Or maybe an airplane, mounted on a stake, flying over the bouquet works best. For a girl, use a stuffed toy or something new that she collects, such as a plastic horse. Or maybe she likes airplanes too. Consider your child's interests.

It could be that something simple and cute is all that's needed. Use flowers like daisies, which have a flat face surrounded by petals. Then, glue on some plastic eyes. You can make a small mouth with a bit of felt.
