Use tweezers and a spray lubricant to remove mounting tape and residue from your walls.

Mounting tape not only attaches posters, pictures and other items to your walls, it also leaves behind a sticky residue when you try to remove it. The tape, like other adhesives, fuses to the paint or finish on your walls as time passes. When removing mounting tape, you don't want to pull it off too quickly. This will result in the tape removing pieces of your wall's finish. You can get mounting tape and its residue off your walls without causing any damage to the finish. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Use tweezers or place the tip of a putty knife behind the edge of the mounting tape. Lift the edge of the tape away from the wall. Wear latex gloves to keep the oils on your fingers off of the wall.

2. Slowly peel the mounting tape from the wall using the tweezers or your fingers.

If the tape is not peeling smoothly, place the tweezers or your fingers on the opposite end of the tape and start peeling then switch back to the other end until the tape is free from the wall.

3. Wipe the area where the tape was with a soft cloth or rag to remove any loose adhesive and dust.

4. Apply 2 tbsp. of a spray lubricant or glass cleaner to the soft cloth or rag. Blot the mounting tape residue gently with the cloth or rag.

5. Let the lubricant or glass cleaner sit on the residue for five minutes. Blot the area with the cloth or rag. Do not scrub; this will smear the residue and push it into your wall's finish.

6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until the wall no longer contains tape residue.

7. Wet a clean soft cloth or rag with warm water. Wring out excess water. Wipe the wall with the damp cloth or rag.
