Use a wood mannequin for drawing proportionally correct bodies for fashion design.
A large part of the presentation of a fashion drawing is the body that the clothes are drawn on. The body creates a form for the clothes to take shape. It is therefore important that a designer can draw a body in a manner that conveys the aesthetic that they want to represent. A wooden mannequin can help to get the proportions correct when drawing the human body. In addition to having a sense of human proportions, it is important to know common poses for fashion.
Instructions
1. Place the wooden mannequin on a work table. Position the mannequin in a position you would like to draw.
2. Place a sheet of drawing paper on the work table. Use an illustration pencil to lightly sketch the shapes of the mannequin to create a combination of shapes that combine to provide an overall silhouette of the body.
3. Draw a line around the outside of the shapes to refine the silhouette of the body. Make adjustments where necessary to connect the shapes and make the curves of the body flow evenly. Erase any stray or unnecessary pencil marks as you go.
4. Draw in the facial features. Consider the overall message you are trying to present in your fashion design when forming the facial expression.
5. Draw a hairstyle to complement the fashion design you will later put on the body.
6. Erase any stray marks or smudges on the drawing along with all of the light pencil marks from the initial shapes that you drew. Draw the clothing and accessories onto the body.
